Frequent Asked Questions

Are you a licensed pilot?

Yes! I am a licensed Part 107 drone pilot. This is an official FAA license that I had to show drone safety and proficiency in so that I would be able to offer drone services to people, like you!

What kind of services do you offer?

As a licensed drone pilot, I am able to offer photographic and videographic services to my clients. These can be personal or business related projects. I can work on most projects, except for anything in or near restricted areas.

Can you fly a drone anywhere?

Anywhere that is classified as Class G airspace, and not in any restricted zone, I can offer services without any additional needs. If your project area is located within a Class B, C, D, or E airspace, I will have to seek a waiver in order to complete the project (no problem at all). Prior to performing any flight, I verify that your location is acceptable for flight.

What if my project is in a controlled airspace such as Class b, c, d, e?

In the case that your project is located within one of these areas, I will submit a LAANC application. If the area is eligible for LAANC, the approval is usually instant. In the case that an airspace does not have LAANC availability, authorization will have to be obtained through the FAA DroneZone. This process can take a bit longer and is a bit more uncommon.

What can I expect?

After submitting a new contact form, I will reach out to you within 1-3 days to discuss your project in more detail. I will coordinate a time to visit your site to evaluate all risks and project opportunities. I will give you a free quote at that time. As there are many variables at play, each job will be unique in terms of pricing. I encourage you to get other offers if you’d like, that way you will find that my services are unbeatable!

How will I receive my final project?

After capturing all photos and videos, I will provide full editing and color grading services. If you would like your photos and videos unedited and provided to you, this can be granted at a lower price. After capturing and editing (if applicable) I can supply the material to you in the form of a SD card, flash drive, and/or in most cases email. Whichever you prefer.

How long will the project take?

Depending on how many projects I have going on, the typical turnaround time is as follows:

  • Planning the project (1-2 days)

  • Capturing of photos/videos (1-2 days)

  • Editing photos/videos (2-4 days)

You can usually expect to have your project finished and ready for you within 3-7 days from the time I visit your project site.

what kind of equipment and software do you use?

In order to provide my clients with the best possible footage, I use only state of the art resources. For my UAV (drone), I use a DJI Air 3S. I utilize ND filters so that I can utilize the drone in virtually all lighting conditions.

The editing software that I use is DaVinci Resolve Studio. This highly powerful software allows me to color correct all footage and organize it in a storyline.

What areas do you service?

I am based out of Southern Indiana so my default is ≤ 100 miles from Bedford, Indiana. If you are outside of this range, my services are still available for a small fee of $50 for the site visit. If you end up having services performed, this fee will be waived!

What conditions can you fly in?

  • To be eligible for flight, the weather conditions must be 3 STATUTE MILES and the cloud base (including fog) must be above 400’ above ground level.

  • Additionally, drones are limited to 400’ above ground level at all times, unless flying around a man made structure. Then I can fly up to 400’ above its highest point.

  • If there is any rain, storms, or windy conditions in the area, the flight will be postponed until the conditions improve.

  • If there is a presence of birds in the area that could potentially endanger the flight, the project may be postponed for safety.

  • Flying overhead of persons will not be permissible per the FAA guidelines. I can fly near an event, but bystanders must be made aware of the flying hazard.

For optimal footage, it is recommended to capture a project when the sun is not directly overhead or overly bright. Cloudy conditions provide better color for objects. With this in mind, I can fly in most conditions with the use of ND filters. These are like sunglasses for a drone camera.
